What is Adaptive Force in League of Legends?

Prior to the League of Legends patch 8.23, Adaptive Force was added to the secondary Rune path. Adaptive Force (a phrase we’re sure you have heard in LoL) is an additional boost or stat. Riot Games added these extra stats so that League of Legends players would have more options that they could choose from. The extra stats include cooldown reduction, bonus attack speed, additional defense stats, and adaptive damage. Adaptive Force can, indeed, improve your game performance.

In this post, we’re going to dig deeper and explain Adaptive Force to you so that you can understand precisely how it can improve your gameplay.

What in the World is Adaptive Force in League of Legends?

Adaptive Force was introduced to League of Legends in Season 8. Ever since then, it is one of the most important damage bonuses in the early phase of the game. Here's what is LoL adaptive force and what does it do

Adaptive Force gives an LoL champion either ability power (AP), or bonus attack damage (AD) – what is granted to you all depends on which damage type your chosen champion has more of.

Let me give you an example:

Let’s say you chose Adaptive Force on Kennen with Doran’s blade (his starting item) – this will give you a stronger boost attack in damage. Why is this? Because this champion has more attack damage than ability power.

If you would have chosen Gankplank instead, and picked Doran’s ring as the starting item, then your ability power would outnumber your attack damage. Since you have less attack damage than ability power, this means that Adaptive Force is going to give you a bonus to your ability power.

Riot Games has mentioned that Adaptive Force is either going to increase your champions ability power or attack power, depending on the champions you choose as well as the items you purchased in the beginning.

How Does Adaptive Force in LoL Work?

One point of Adaptive Force compares to one point of AP and 0.6 points of bonus attack damage. What does all of this mean? Well, for every one point of Adaptive Force you gain, this means that you will earn 0.6 points AD and one point AP.

When you pick Adaptive Force in the first Stat Share rows, this will give your champion the ability to attack that Adaptive Force, which will result in either 20 bonus AP or 12 bonus AD.

How to Increase Adaptive Force in League of Legends?

LoL adaptive force is a crucial damage bonus for each champion. It may seem difficult to understand, but it's actually really easy to learn how to use it.

Adaptive Force does as the name suggests – it adapts to the items you have throughout the match. In League of Legends, it is crucial that you build your runes so that they are aligned with the items you have chosen.

For example, let’s say that you’re in mid-game, you gain more AD than you do AP. This will result in your Adaptive Force increasing whichever state you have more buffed.

If a LoL player has chosen to run Adaptive Force as part of their Stat Shard, here’s a list of runes and items they could use to improve those force bonuses:

    Runes

    • Conqueror
    • Gathering Storm
    • Absolute Focus
    • Transcendence
    • Waterwalking
    • Zombie Ward
    • Eyeball Collection
    • Ghost Poro

    Items

    • Pilfered Potion of Rouge

On a side note, if you have Yuumi on your side, this would serve as an even stronger boost in magic damage or attack.

    Conclusion

Riot Games brought a higher player agency to LoL all thanks to patch 8.23. Yes, in this patch, there were numerous changes made to the Rune System, and during this time, Adaptive Force was a hot topic among the League of Legends community, and some out there were confused about what it does.

We hope this post helped you understand Adaptive Force and if you have any questions or tips, as usual, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.
