League of Legends is an action-packed game with a lot of stuff going on at all times. It gets a bit monotonous during the early stages, and most of this stems from the slower pace of gameplay and the dullness of League’s overall atmosphere early on.
The in-game sound effects and music are nice, don’t get me wrong, but I prefer to have something blasting in my ears to help me not fall asleep while farming creeps in the Jungle.
Everyone has their go-to music genre for playing any type of video game, myself included. So, I had the radical idea of sharing the best music to listen to while playing League of Legends.
There’s a wide variety of genres, performers, and types in this article, so I sincerely hope I can help fill everyone’s playlist.
So, with that out of the way, let us begin with the best music to play. This is a fun article, meaning I won’t be using any comparisons to determine which one of the named genres is better than the other.
You all have your preferences, and you can be the judge of that yourself, without my interference.

1. Rock and Metal
Recommended bands: System of a Down, AC/DC, Pentakill, Rammstein, etc.
Blasting rock and metal into my ears is one of my favorite things to do. These two are my favorite genres of music overall, and there’s scarcely anything that can substitute them.
League suits them well. Fast and melodic music helps you pump yourself up, break up the monotony of Laning, and be motivated during high-action team fights.
Of course, League even has its own rock/metal department with Pentakill, which can give you a lore-friendly version of a great genre of music that most people like. I say most, as it does tend to get a bit niche at times, especially lately.
Whatever band you opt for, though, I am confident you’ll find yourself enjoying League just a tad bit more than you usually would.
2. Rap
Recommended groups/performers: NWA, Nas, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang, etc.
Rap is one of the most popular genres of music in history. Currently, it definitely sits at the very top of every chart – in its original form and as many of its sub-genres.
The well-designed beats, tunes, and enjoyable flows can completely relax and help you remain focused on the game. I love listening to it occasionally and am a huge fan of Nas, whose Illmatic album is among my favorite of all time.
Rap is a versatile genre. As I’ve said above, there are many sub-genres to fit any taste and need, and you’ll undoubtedly find one fitting for you and your League playstyle. I highly recommend the ones I’ve named above, but all of them fit within the “gangsta-rap” genre.

3. Techno/Dubstep/Rave
Recommended groups/performers: Just about any mix out there, really
Techno music is also among the most popular in the past 20 years. It can have a fantastic effect on one’s mood, especially in high-octane games like League of Legends.
There’s not much to say about it. Every sub-genre of techno is its own story, and I advise you to explore to find what you like most. There are so many mixes around the internet that you can enjoy that pinpointing a few certain artists is irrelevant.
People have recently been loving the lo-fi stuff, and the lo-fi hip hop radio channel Lofi Girl currently sits at 9.5 million YouTube subscribers. Whatever you choose to listen to, however, is a good choice. Remember, tastes are not something to be discussed – we all love and hate different things.
4. Honorable Mention: Fantasy, Folk/Country and Video Game music
Recommended artists: The Dead South, Orthodox Celts, Faun, Video Game music artists, etc.
I count this one as an honorable mention since it is so niched. It is a genre I enjoy very much and daily. I just cannot fathom playing or doing something without some national folk music playing silently in the background.
If you allow yourself to enjoy them, there are so many songs that can elevate a gaming experience to a whole other level. My League games have mostly gone with some Alina Gingertail, a Youtuber covering video game music.
Playing video games while listening to various video game songs is just so enchanting – especially when that music comes from fantasy worlds like The Witcher, Dragon Age, and the like.
I enjoy Bard songs, fantasy songs, and all of those different magical poems, and I recommend you at least try them out.
Artists like Garmarna, Faun, and others offer upbeat music for those that don’t want to indulge in slower things, though I’d wager most of you won’t understand the lyrics. But that doesn’t matter. You might learn a few new words along the way, which only makes the listening experience of fantasy and folk even better.
