Arcane Comet vs. Summon Aery – Which One Is Better?

League of Legends offers us many different Runes to choose from. Whether we need damage, sustain, or utility – the Runes are there to help. The current Rune system results from a decade-long evolution process, culminating with a reliable way of getting passive buffs before the game even starts.

As I’ve said, there are many Runes. Divided into three categories, they offer a variety of effects that can suit any situation you might find yourself in.

The blue section, which is used mainly by mages, has two primary Runes which are often compared. These two are the Arcane Comet and Summon Aery

The two Runes are similar in what they do, yet they have vastly different uses. In this article, we will glance over what each of the Runes does and then conclude on which one (if any) is better.

    So, let’s get started.

    Arcane Comet

Arcane Comet is a Rune that you will see most used on Mage Champions. It provides you with a Comet (go figure) that launches at the enemy after dealing ability damage to them.

It is an excellent tool to give you a passive boost to ability damage early on. As the game progresses, the Rune’s damage scales as well. It will substantially increase by the late game. However, it will not have as much of an impact later as it does in the early game.

Arcane Comet’s best utility is found as an execution tool, serving to do that last bit of damage that your spells might have failed to. This is performed best by Mages, especially ranged ones. They can use the Rune range and their spells to do damage and harass their opponents in Lane.

All in all, it’s an excellent little addition to your damage capacities that will indeed have some impact on how you perform.

    Summon Aery

Summon Aery is a similar Rune but has some different mechanics. Each time you do ability damage, you will deal extra, which is almost identical to Comet. However, the Aery Rune will also amplify your shields and buffs, making it a fantastic Rune for Enchanter Supports.

Some of these Supports include Karma and Lulu, who absolutely take this Rune to its maximum. Karma primarily can utilize well both the extra damage and the buffs, and Aery is more or less the perfect Rune to take on her.

It’s an excellent tool for both Supports and Mages, but we will face them head-to-head in the following section.

    So, Which One is Better?

Well, both, and neither. We’re trying to compare apples to oranges here, in my opinion. Arcane Comet is a Rune explicitly focused on damage and will always be better in this regard. Whenever a Mage wants to maximize their output of ability damage, they will always pick Arcane Comet.

However, Supports would never have their extra shield if they took Comet. This is why most will opt for Summon Aery. In general, this becomes a situational argument, and each is better in their respective scenarios.

    Final Thoughts

League of Legends Runes, and these two, in particular, shouldn’t exactly be compared. They were all made and tailored for various situations, and each can find its use in some scenarios. There is not a single Rune, Champion, or spell that is best in every case.

I hope you’ve found this quick article fun and informative to read, and I wish you all the best on the Summoner’s Rift.
